Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
